Earth's chemical composition

WebAbstract. The chemical composition of the continental crust is critically important for understanding its formation and evolution and, ultimately, understanding Earth differentiation. Here we provide a brief review of the chemical composition of the continental crust, with an emphasis on studies from China. WebAll agree that the principal components are oxides of silicon, magnesium, and iron. The differences are mainly in the minor components such as aluminum oxide, calcium oxide, and the alkalies, and are determined largely by theoretical considerations and the weight given to specific aspects of the geophysical and geochemical data.
