Web1965. Pittock Mansion was put up for sale by the family in 1958. However, they were unsuccessful in selling the estate, and still owned it in 1962 when a storm caused extensive damage to the house. Knowing the home faced demolition, community members fundraised to save it. In turn, the city of Portland purchased it, opening it as a museum in 1965. WebPublic guided tours are approximately 50 minutes long and only take place in the Mansion.
